The Kings of Frog Island

Leicester's own Kings of Frog Island have been brewing heavy, hazy psychedelic rock since 2003, and the name is a genuine nod to the Frog Island district of the city where it all began. Guitarist and producer Mark Buteux co founded the collective alongside Roger 'Doj' Watson, a veteran of grunge and punk outfit Scum Pups, and the lineup has shifted over the years while keeping that signature blend of stoner weight and retro psychedelia locked in. Their debut came out on Germany's Elektrohasch Records in 2005, and they have kept a steady output going ever since. By the time Mat Bethancourt departed in 2010 to focus on Cherry Choke, the group was already deep into an ambitious run of records. They have now put out seven numbered studio albums, with VI and VII landing in 2020 and 2021 respectively, plus a handful of additional releases in between. They also run their own Amphibia Sound Studios, which keeps the whole operation firmly on their own terms.
