The Lathums hit number one on the UK Albums Chart with their debut record, How Beautiful Life Can Be, just weeks after its September 2021 release. That kind of arrival is hard to ignore, especially for a band that started as a college music project in Wigan before signing to Island Records within a year of forming. Their sound draws heavily from British indie tradition, with the Smiths and Arctic Monkeys cited as key reference points, and frontman Alex Moore's songwriting sits at the centre of it all. They have since kept building momentum, earning support slots with Paul Weller, Blossoms and The Killers, and making their debut on the Other Stage at Glastonbury in 2023. Their second album, From Nothing to a Little Bit More, followed in 2023, with the single "Say My Name" picking up Radio X Record of the Year. A third album, Matter Does Not Define, was announced in late 2024, arriving with the single Stellar Cast.
