About
Bristol's The Longest Johns have built a devoted following around folk music and sea shanties, blending traditional material with their own original songs. The trio of Andy Yates, Jonathan Darley, and Robbie Sattin first came together in 2012 and released their debut EP Bones in the Ocean the following year, with the title track remaining one of their most enduring songs. Their 2018 album Between Wind and Water included a version of "Wellerman" that became the spark for a massive viral sea shanty moment on TikTok in early 2021, catapulting them to a much wider audience overnight. That momentum led to a deal with Decca Records, and the band put out Smoke and Oakum in 2022. True to their independent spirit, they later left Decca and now release music through their own Jetsam Records label. Their catalogue keeps growing, with the fifth studio album Voyage arriving in 2024 and a series of EPs being collected into Pieces of Eight in 2025.
