About
The Magnificent Seven is a guitar festival concept launched by Jan Kuiper, the founder and artistic director of the Dutch guitar ensemble Five Great Guitars. The inspiration behind it stretches back to the legendary live album Friday Night in San Francisco, which captured John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola and Paco de Lucia playing together acoustically, each bringing a completely different virtuosic style. Five Great Guitars grew from that same spirit in the late 1990s, originally featuring Kuiper alongside Digmon Roovers, Eric Vaarzon Morel, Zoumana Diarra and Harry Sacksioni. The Magnificent Seven expands that idea into a full guitar festival format, bringing seven virtuosos together across three distinct acts, preceded by accessible workshops from the assembled players. The music draws on an eclectic mix of Gypsy, African, Brazilian, Latin, roots, pop, funk and jazz, held together by improvisation and rhythms from every corner of the world.
