The Neal Morse Band came together in 2014 when Neal Morse, already a veteran of Spock's Beard and the supergroup Transatlantic, teamed up with drummer Mike Portnoy, bassist Randy George, guitarist Eric Gillette, and keyboardist Bill Hubauer. Their debut, The Grand Experiment, arrived in 2015 and set the template: expansive progressive rock with the kind of ambitious arrangements and conceptual ambition Morse had been building toward for years. The band hit a real peak with The Similitude of a Dream in 2016, a double album inspired by John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress, followed by the direct sequel The Great Adventure in 2019. Their fourth record, Innocence and Danger, landed in 2021. With Portnoy driving things from behind the kit and a lineup where everyone pulls serious weight, the Neal Morse Band sits comfortably among the more creatively restless acts working in modern progressive rock.
