The Pigeon Detectives have been one of Leeds' most reliably energetic indie rock outfits since they formed in Rothwell in 2004. Their debut album Wait for Me shot straight to number 3 in the UK charts and went Gold, and they followed it up the next year with Emergency, which peaked at number 5 and featured the single "This Is an Emergency" cracking the top 15. That early momentum saw them go from a buzzed about NME tip at Reading and Leeds in 2006 to headlining the main stage at the same festival in 2011, sharing the bill with The Strokes and Pulp. Over six albums they have stayed rooted in punchy, hook driven rock without drifting far from what made them click in the first place. Their third record Up, Guards and at 'Em! was recorded in Brooklyn with producer Justin Gerrish, while We Met at Sea brought things back home to Leeds. More recently the band put out TV Show in 2023, showing they are still very much in the game.
