Few groups have covered as much musical ground as The Pointer Sisters. Coming out of Oakland, California, they moved between funk, soul, disco, country and pop with a ease that left critics impressed from the start. Their debut single "Yes We Can Can" hit the top 20 in 1973, and they even won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance in 1975 for "Fairytale", which tells you something about just how wide their range really was. Their commercial peak came in the 1980s after signing with Planet Records, where producer Richard Perry steered them toward a sleeker electronic pop sound. That shift paid off massively: "Fire", "He's So Shy", "Slow Hand", "Jump (For My Love)", "I'm So Excited" and "Neutron Dance" all cracked the US top 10, and they picked up two more Grammys in 1984. Across their career they sold around 40 million records and landed 13 US top 20 hits between 1973 and 1987, earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994.
