About
Also known as: (The Real) Tuesday Weld, Real Tuesday Weld, Tuesday Weld
The Real Tuesday Weld is the project of London producer and singer Stephen Coates, who dreamed about actress Tuesday Weld and 1930s crooner Al Bowlly and ended up with a whole band name and sound out of it. Mixing big band jazz era sounds with electronica, and pairing live shows with bespoke films and animations, the act became an influence on the current wave of electro swing artists and DJs. Coates has kept busy well beyond the albums. He wrote the songs for the game L.A. Noire with singer Claudia Brücken, scored the soundtrack to Glen Duncan's novel The Last Werewolf, and one of the band's piano pieces ended up in an iPad advert. He has remixed Duke Ellington, Count Basie and The Puppini Sisters, and even runs the X Ray Audio Project, digging into Soviet bootlegs pressed on old X rays. In 2021 he announced the band would wind down after three final albums.
