About
The Royal Swedish Orchestra holds the distinction of being the oldest orchestra in Sweden, a legacy that carries real weight when they take on the grand ambitions of composers like Wagner. Under chief conductor Alan Gilbert, the ensemble brings together the full sweep of Wagnerian drama, from the famous overture of Tannhäuser to the monumental closing passages of Der Ring des Nibelungen. Soprano Nina Stemme joins them to perform Isolde's Liebestod, one of the most emotionally charged pieces in the operatic canon. Symphonic rock may be their genre tag, but the orchestra's roots run deep in the European classical tradition.
