The Secret Sisters, the Alabama duo of sisters Laura Rogers and Lydia Slagle, make the kind of country and Americana music that sounds like it was pulled straight out of another era. Their self titled 2010 debut was recorded in just two weeks at Blackbird Studios with producer Dave Cobb and executive producer T Bone Burnett, using vintage microphones and analog tape to get a sound that drew comparisons to the Everly Brothers. They even cut a 7 inch single with Jack White, covering Johnny Cash's 'Big River' and the folk standard 'Wabash Cannonball' at his Third Man Records studio. After their second album put them in a rough spot financially and artistically, Brandi Carlile stepped in during 2015 and invited them to open her shows. A song tried out during soundcheck eventually became the lead single from their third album, You Don't Own Me Anymore, released in 2017 on New West Records. That record was funded in part through a fan campaign that hit half its target in just 48 hours, a pretty clear sign that people were not ready to let this duo walk away from music.
