About
Chicago's The Symposium trades in a mix of indie rock, psych rock and garage rock that draws comparisons to The Strokes, Mac DeMarco and Ty Segall. Their 2014 debut, Drugs, leaned hard into that Strokes adjacent sound, and the 2017 self titled follow up broadened the palette with more psychedelic and pop textures. After a hiatus that stretched from 2019 into the early 2020s, they came back swinging with The Sonic Age, released at the tail end of 2024, preceded by the single Light Speed 2. The band is built around the songwriting partnership of guitarist and vocalist Charlie Gammill and guitarist Sam Clancy, with the rest of the lineup rounding out the sound.
