About
Sam Beste, a North London musician, records under the name The Vernon Spring, blending jazz, soul, ambient textures and songwriting into something that sits comfortably in none of those boxes on its own. He spent years as a live pianist for Amy Winehouse at the height of her career, which opened doors to collaborations with Gabriels, Sounwave, Beth Orton, Kano, Joy Crookes, Matthew Herbert and MF DOOM. Before going solo he was part of the alt soul group Hejira and co founded the Lima Limo collective and label. Since 2019 he has been releasing music under The Vernon Spring name, building a catalogue that includes A Plane Over Woods, Earth, On A Good Day and Under a Familiar Sun. Across those records his sound has taken shape around delicate piano playing, emotional vocals and understated electronics.
