About
Gia Margaret calls her music "sleep rock", and that label fits better than most self applied tags. The Chicago singer, songwriter and producer puts out hazy, intimate records that have drawn comparisons to Imogen Heap, Nick Drake and Broken Social Scene. Her 2018 debut There's Always Glimmer established her voice, but a serious illness in 2019 that damaged her vocal cords sent her in a surprising direction: her follow up Mia Gargaret dropped the vocals almost entirely in favour of ambient synthesizer meditations. She kept that instrumental approach on Romantic Piano (2023), and "Hinoki Wood" from that album took on a life of its own when it became the soundtrack to the viral "Chill Guy" meme. Her fourth album Singing, released in 2026, marked her return to vocals for the first time since that 2019 illness, signed to Jagjaguwar Records.
