Three of rock's greatest guitarists, one band. The Yardbirds launched the careers of Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page in succession, all three of whom landed in the top five of Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarists list. Formed in London in 1963, they built their reputation at the Crawdaddy Club playing Chicago blues, then evolved fast, mixing psychedelic rock, early hard rock and raw rockabilly into something that helped reshape British music entirely. Songs like "For Your Love", "Heart Full of Soul", "Shapes of Things" and "Over Under Sideways Down" remain genuine mid 60s touchstones. What often gets overlooked is how much the core lineup mattered beyond the guitar heroes. Frontman Keith Relf's vocals, harmonica work and songwriting were central to the band's identity. Their signature "rave up" instrumental breaks became a blueprint others borrowed freely. After splitting in 1968, Page went on to form Led Zeppelin while Relf and drummer Jim McCarty started Renaissance. The band reformed in the 1990s and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.
