Few bands have matched the sheer output of Osees, the San Francisco born, Los Angeles based group led by John Dwyer. What started as a solo freak folk recording project in the late nineties grew into one of the most restless acts in psychedelic and garage rock, pulling from krautrock, punk, folk and heavy prog depending on the mood. They have put out thirty studio albums under a rotating cast of names including OCS, Thee Oh Sees, Oh Sees and now Osees, a habit Dwyer openly admits is partly designed to annoy the music press. The band hit a critical sweet spot with records like Carrion Crawler/The Dream and Floating Coffin, then kept pushing into heavier territory with Smote Reverser and Face Stabber. Their live shows are famously high energy affairs, and the dual drummer setup they adopted around 2015 only amplified that intensity. Longtime collaborator Brigid Dawson, whose voice is a distinctive presence on several key records, has remained a recurring figure in the Osees orbit across the years.
