Few bands defined the sound of 1970s hard rock quite like Thin Lizzy. The Dublin outfit built their reputation on twin lead guitars, the kind of arrangement that Iron Maiden and countless others would later borrow wholesale, and the magnetic presence of Phil Lynott, a singer, bassist and lyricist whose writing gave the band a distinctly Irish soul. Their breakthrough came with "The Boys Are Back in Town" in 1976, but the catalogue runs much deeper than that one anthem. Tracks like "Whiskey in the Jar", "Emerald", and "Cowboy Song" show a band equally at home with Celtic folk roots and full throttle rock. Lynott passed away in January 1986, yet Thin Lizzy has continued in various forms, with Scott Gorham keeping the name and the music alive for audiences who never get tired of those harmonised guitar lines.
