Thrice built their reputation on a sound that felt genuinely restless, always pushing past wherever they'd just been. Out of Irvine, California, the post hardcore four piece made their name on albums like The Illusion of Safety and The Artist in the Ambulance, where distorted guitars and shifting time signatures gave the music a tense, coiled energy. Then came Vheissu in 2005, a sharp left turn into electronics and experimentation that caught a lot of people off guard in the best way. The Alchemy Index, released across 2007 and 2008, took that restlessness even further: four six song EPs styled around fire, water, air and earth, each one sounding distinct from the last. After a hiatus that started in 2011, the band came back in 2015 and released To Be Everywhere Is to Be Nowhere the following year, their first record in five years. Palms followed in 2018, and then Horizons/East in 2021. Alongside all of it, Thrice has consistently donated a portion of each album's proceeds to a different charitable cause, which has been a thread running through the band's entire career.
