Few DJs can claim they performed live at an Olympic Games opening ceremony, but Tiësto did exactly that in Athens in 2004, making history as the first DJ to play on stage at the Olympics. The Breda born producer built his reputation through a string of releases on his own Black Hole Recordings label, including the beloved Magik and In Search of Sunrise series, and a stint as one half of the trance duo Gouryella alongside Ferry Corsten. His 2000 remix of Delerium's 'Silence' featuring Sarah McLachlan cracked the mainstream, and his debut album In My Memory followed in 2001 with five major hits. DJ Magazine named him the world's number one DJ three years running from 2002 to 2004. Over time Tiësto shifted from pure trance toward a broader electronic sound, incorporating house, electro and big room elements. His album Elements of Life hit number one in Belgium and on Billboard's Top Electronic Albums chart and earned a Grammy nomination in 2008. He eventually won a Grammy for his remix of John Legend's 'All of Me'. More recently he has been collaborating with artists like Post Malone on 'Jackie Chan' and Rita Ora on 'Ritual', proving he still moves comfortably between dance floors and pop radio.
