About
TisDass takes the soulful tradition of Tuareg music and pushes it toward electric guitar rock, landing somewhere between accelerated reggae and the meditative Sahelian sound they call Assouf, a word meaning nostalgia. The band is fronted by singer and guitarist Moussa Kildjate Albadé and rooted in Niamey, with strong ties to Tchintabaraden, a town closely associated with the Tamasheq kel of Niger. Their name translates to Pillars in Tamasheq, a nod to the structural posts of traditional Berber tents and a statement about their commitment to Tuareg culture. Their album Amanar, recorded in 2019 and released in 2021, marked a turning point, and the current lineup has since steered the sound into fuller, more danceable rock territory. Rhythm guitarist Mouhamed Khamed Assalerh, drummer Issoufou Dan Nana Ichaya and bassist Bouba Hamidine Souleymane drive that shift. The follow up album Houmaïssa, released through Bolingo Art and Rebel Up, is named after a symbol worn exclusively by Tuareg women and serves as a tribute to women as the pillars of Tuareg family life. Songs like Taflist (Trust), Derhan (Hope) and Ikewagne (Root) reflect the band's enduring preoccupation with peace.
