About

Also known as: The Toadies, Toadies, The

Fort Worth's Toadies built their reputation on a rawer, harder edged take on 1990s alternative rock, and "Possum Kingdom" remains one of the era's most distinctive tracks, a slow burning, unsettling song that climbed to number nine on the Mainstream Rock Chart. Their 1994 debut Rubberneck took a while to find its audience partly because Interscope sat on promotion for over a year, but once that single caught fire, the band spent the rest of the decade touring relentlessly alongside Red Hot Chili Peppers, White Zombie, and Bush. Their follow up album Feeler had a famously complicated path: Interscope rejected it in 1998, a second album eventually came out in 2001 as Hell Below/Stars Above, and then the band split when bassist Lisa Umbarger resigned mid tour. They reformed in 2006, and Feeler finally got a proper release in 2010 after the band re recorded it from scratch because the original masters were locked away at Interscope. Since then they have kept busy, adding Play.Rock.Music, Heretics, and The Lower Side of Uptown to their catalogue.
