Few voices in pop history carry the sheer weight and range of Tom Jones. The Welsh baritone burst onto the scene with "It's Not Unusual" hitting number one in the UK in 1965, and from there he racked up over 100 million records sold, 36 top 40 hits in the UK alone, and iconic tracks like "Delilah", "Green, Green Grass of Home", and the Bond theme for Thunderball. AllMusic nailed it calling his voice "full throated, robust" and the New York Times described him as a musical shapeshifter who could slide from soulful rasp to pop croon. What keeps Jones genuinely fascinating is how far he has stretched across genres, from soul and gospel to country and dance. His 1988 cover of Prince's "Kiss" introduced him to a whole new generation, and his duets album Reload did the same again in the late 90s with "Sex Bomb" becoming an unlikely anthem. His long run as a coach on The Voice UK from 2012 onward cemented his reputation as someone who actually knows what great singing sounds like.
