Tom Neven & the Side Effect (NL)

About

Tom Neven & the Side Effect make hushed, acoustic songs that lean into folk, singer songwriter and Americana territory. Neven is a singer songwriter from Brabant, and his music tends toward the melancholy: warm vocals, cinematic melodies and gentle violin lines that sit close to the voice rather than burying it. Group harmonies add another layer, and the whole thing feels more like a conversation than a performance. Two albums sit at the core of the catalogue, Closer as the debut and Soon as the follow up. The latter was presented to a sold out room at the Chassé Theater. Between songs Neven tells personal stories and keeps things light with humor, which gives a set the feel of an evening in someone's living room. Music blogs and reviewers have been generous to both records, and the band has built a reputation for making small, quiet songs land with real weight.
