About
Tom Principato has spent decades making electric blues and blues rock that draws as much from Roy Buchanan's raw intensity as it does from B.B. King's fluid storytelling. Based in Falls Church, Virginia, he has recorded more than twenty albums as a solo artist, picking up twenty Washington Area Music Awards along the way. Pat Metheny put it well: "He has an enormous talent at telling stories in his solos; he doesn't play standard licks." His collaborative credits are pretty remarkable too. He recorded the live album Blazing Telecasters with the legendary Danny Gatton, which was considered for a Grammy nomination after its 1990 release. Chuck Leavell co produced Tip of the Iceberg and later played keys on Robert Johnson Told Me So. Earlier in his career he worked as a session player alongside Sunnyland Slim, Big Mama Thornton, and Billy Price, and he performed at both the Notodden Blues Festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival.
