Few artists can claim a single that rewrote chart history, but Tones and I did exactly that. Her 2019 track "Dance Monkey" hit number one in over 30 countries and sat at the top of the Australian singles chart for 24 weeks, outlasting a record that had stood since Bing Crosby in 1943. By February 2024 she became the first female artist to crack 3 billion streams for a single song on Spotify, which says everything about how relentlessly that track connected with people. Written alone in what she called a dark closet in under 30 minutes, it became the first Australian song to reach number one on Spotify's global daily chart. Before any of that, Tones and I was busking up and down Australia's east coast with a loop pedal and a synthesizer, building a fanbase one crowd at a time. Her debut EP The Kids Are Coming peaked at number three in Australia, and her 2021 debut album Welcome to the Madhouse went straight to number one on the ARIA Albums Chart. Its lead single "Fly Away" reached number four in Australia and cracked the top 15 in the UK and Denmark. She also swept the ARIA Music Awards in 2019, taking home four of her eight nominations.
