About
Tool built their reputation on music that refuses to sit still. The Los Angeles four piece, anchored by vocalist Maynard James Keenan, guitarist Adam Jones, drummer Danny Carey and bassist Justin Chancellor, blends progressive metal, art rock and visual experimentation into something that genuinely defies easy categorisation. Their 1993 debut full length Undertow got a boost from a legendary Lollapalooza run, and the follow up Ænima cemented them as one of the most serious and ambitious acts in heavy music. Lateralus and 10,000 Days pushed even deeper into complex time signatures and philosophical themes, with Carey famously weaving Fibonacci sequences into the music itself. After more than a decade between studio records, Tool returned in 2019 with Fear Inoculum, which landed to widespread critical praise. With over 13 million albums sold in the US before that release, their fanbase had waited patiently and loudly. Adam Jones handles much of the band's visual output too, creating the distinctive animated videos that have become a key part of the live experience.
