Turbonegro are the Oslo outfit who took punk, glam rock, and hard rock and welded them into something they call "deathpunk", a sound that swings between dark, death driven riffs and sarcastic, disruptive lyrics. Formed in the late 1980s, they hit their stride with the denim and moustache era that kicked off around 1995, leaning hard into big, trashy rock energy. Albums like Ass Cobra and Apocalypse Dudes cemented their cult status, and a massive international fanbase called the Turbojugend, recognisable by their denim vests, grew up around them. After a split in the late 1990s they came back in 2002 and have kept at it ever since, releasing records like Scandinavian Leather, Party Animals, Retox, and Sexual Harassment. Tony Sylvester, known as The Duke of Nothing, stepped in as vocalist in 2011 after the departure of the much loved Hank von Helvete. The band's catalog spans everything from noisy garage punk to full on hard rock bombast, and they have never really cared much about staying in one lane.
