About
Also known as: U.F.O, UFO!
UFO spent over five decades as one of hard rock's most influential acts, selling more than 20 million records and helping bridge early hard rock with the new wave of British heavy metal. The band really hit their stride once Michael Schenker joined in 1973, bringing a razor sharp guitar style that defined albums like Phenomenon, Lights Out and the 1979 live record Strangers in the Night, which hit number 7 in the UK and was later called the fourth best live rock album of all time by Classic Rock magazine. Songs like Doctor Doctor, Lights Out, Too Hot to Handle and Only You Can Rock Me became cornerstones of the classic rock canon. Through countless lineup changes, vocalist Phil Mogg remained the one constant, steering the band through three separate hiatuses over the years. UFO shared stages with AC/DC, Rush, Kiss, Judas Priest and Thin Lizzy at their commercial peak, playing arenas across the US and Europe. After a farewell tour that stretched well past its original end date, Mogg confirmed the band's final disbandment in April 2024, closing out one of rock's more enduring runs.
