About
Ufomammut have been warping the boundaries of doom and stoner metal since forming in Tortona, Italy in 1999, and their catalog reads like a series of experiments in how heavy and hypnotic music can get. Their signature is massive: heavily distorted bass and guitar tuned down to B, slow crushing drum rhythms, droning vocals, synths, and sound effects layered into songs that unfold over many minutes. Their fifth album Eve is a single 45 minute track split into five movements, treating its title figure as a fusion of Lucifer and Prometheus. The ORO project arrived in two separate releases in 2012, designed to flow together as one continuous piece, its title playing on an Italian palindrome meaning gold and a Latin word meaning I pray. Their live shows are an audiovisual experience, with synced video loops created by Malleus Rock Art Lab, a collective that includes guitarist Poia and bassist Urlo. After founding drummer Vita left in 2020 and the band took a brief hiatus, they returned in 2021 with new drummer Levre. Since then they have kept busy, releasing the album Fenice in 2022, the EP Crookhead in 2023, and the album Hidden in 2024.
