About
Ukraine Chamber Opera brings together top soloists from various Ukrainian opera houses who continue their artistic work outside their home country. The ensemble performs Verdi's La Traviata, pairing his music with Francesco Maria Piave's libretto to tell the story of the impossible love between Alfredo and Violetta, a woman dying of tuberculosis. The production is staged deliberately intimate, with no distance between performers and audience, letting the familiar arias Libiamo, Sempre libera and Parigi o cara land with real closeness. The principal roles are sung by Marianna Tsvietinska and Maxime Vorocheck, both connected to the opera house in Lviv, while Olexander Forkushak takes on Giorgio Germont. Stage direction is handled by Marc Krone and musical direction by Jeroen Weierink. For the Ukrainian singers involved, the opera's themes of loss, coercion and sacrifice carry a particular personal weight.
