One of the more quietly influential figures in the hyperpop world, umru first turned heads with his production on Charli XCX's "I Got It" from her 2017 mixtape Pop 2, a track that put him squarely on the map within experimental pop circles. Discovered that year by PC Music founder A. G. Cook, he went on to release two EPs through the label, 2018's Search Result and 2022's Comfort Noise, racking up collaborations with 100 gecs, Dorian Electra, Rebecca Black, Alice Longyu Gao and plenty more along the way. His production style resists easy labeling. He prefers to think of himself simply as a pop musician rather than getting pinned to any single genre tag, and his work carries that sense of restless experimentation. When PC Music wound down new releases in 2024, umru moved to Scottish label LuckyMe and dropped his third EP Matter of Time in April 2025, featuring Jacques Greene, Nikki Nair and Warpstr. Beyond music, he co founded the Minecraft event space Open Pit Presents and the design firm Parent Company, whose client list has ranged from Rina Sawayama to Elton John.
