Her third album, Sim, put Vanessa da Mata on the map well beyond Brazil. Recorded partly in Kingston, Jamaica with legendary rhythm duo Sly and Robbie, the record had a loose, warm feel that set it apart from typical MPB fare. The standout track was "Boa Sorte/Good Luck", a duet with Ben Harper that went to number one in both Brazil and Portugal and became the most played song on Brazilian radio in 2008. A second single, "Amado", also topped the Brazilian charts and earned a Latin Grammy for Best Contemporary Brazilian Pop Album. Vanessa da Mata writes her own material, and her songwriting reach extends well beyond her own records. A co write with Chico César landed with Maria Bethânia and picked up a Latin Grammy nomination, and she has penned songs for Daniela Mercury too. Her catalog stretches across studio albums and live sets, and live versions of her biggest songs, including "Amado" and "Boa Sorte/Good Luck", remain the tracks audiences keep coming back to.
