Vansire is a dream pop duo from Rochester, Minnesota, made up of Josh Augustin and Sam Winemiller, who named themselves after an obscure alternative word for the Marsh mongoose, courtesy of a random word generator. Their sound has evolved from lo fi basement recordings made into an iPad microphone running GarageBand into something more polished and increasingly dance oriented, drawing from funk inflected music alongside their dreamy pop sensibility. Signed to Spirit Goth Records, the band has built a catalog that spans bedroom pop to rapper collaborations, working with the likes of Mick Jenkins and Ivy Sole. Their 2018 album Angel Youth was the first where they brought in outside artists, and by 2022 they had released their third LP, The Modern Western World. Most recently, they put out their fourth studio album, Taking Solace, in 2026. Despite spending much of their career as a long distance band, Augustin and Winemiller have kept a remarkably consistent creative momentum.
