Vato Gonzalez, the Dutch producer and DJ born as Björn Franken, built his name on a sound he literally branded himself: Dirty House, a raw, dancefloor focused take on house music that he developed through five mixtapes between 2007 and 2009. The concept caught on, and it wasn't long before the wider world took notice. His track Badman Riddim, a collaboration with UK hip hop and grime outfit Foreign Beggars, landed at number 7 on the UK Singles Chart in June 2011, marking a breakthrough for both acts in the country. He kept the momentum going with Not a Saint in early 2013, a remix featuring Lethal Bizzle and Donae'o that peaked at number 20 in the UK. Signed to both Spinnin' Records and DOORN Records, Gonzalez has stayed rooted in the harder, grittier side of house while working with some recognisable names from the UK urban scene.
