About
Veldman Vintage Project is built around the music of the 1970s, performed with a focus on authenticity rather than simple nostalgia. Frontman Gerrit Veldman, a singer and guitarist, shapes the band's approach to classic material drawn from artists like Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Rory Gallagher, The Beatles, and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. The goal is to honour the spirit of those recordings rather than just run through the hits. The lineup around Veldman is a tight unit. Bassist Tenny Tahamata and drummer Mathieu van Uden form the rhythm section, a pairing that developed across other musical projects before this one came together. Rounding things out is keyboardist Roland Bakker, who brings Hammond organ, piano and synth textures to the sound. Bakker has toured Europe with Walter Trout, and that experience shows in the weight he adds to the band's southern rock, blues rock and psychedelic grooves.
