About
Also known as: The Vengaboys, Vangaboys, Venga Boys, Vengo Boys, Wengaboys, ベンガボーイズ, ヴェンガボーイズ
Few acts captured the late 90s party spirit quite like the Vengaboys. The Rotterdam group, built around vocalist Kim Sasabone alongside Denise van Rijswijk and male vocalists Robin Pors and Donny Latupeirissa, became a Eurodance phenomenon courtesy of producers Danski and Delmundo. Tracks like "We Like to Party", "Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!" and "We're Going to Ibiza" were inescapable, with the latter two topping the UK Singles Chart. All told, they shifted an estimated 25 million records worldwide, earning them the title of most successful Dutch pop group in history according to Dutch outlet Nu.nl. Their run of hits kept going with "Shalala Lala" and "Kiss (When the Sun Don't Shine)" from The Platinum Album, and even an animated virtual band member named Cheekah made a cameo along the way. After a hiatus in the early 2000s, the Vengaboys came back to the club scene and have kept performing ever since, even putting out an Unplugged EP in 2019 to mark their 20th anniversary. Bubblegum beats and big energy remain their calling card.
