Viktor Griffioen is an actor and musician who has spent two decades researching the life and work of Johnny Cash. What started with wearing out Cash's records and poring over his lyrics grew into something far more committed: multiple research trips to the United States, conversations with dozens of Cash family members and band members, an undercover stint inside the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, and archival discoveries in Dyess, Arkansas. All of that eventually found its shape in "Cash: Seven Songs for Johnny", a music theatre show built around seven original songs Griffioen wrote himself, each one an attempt to get closer to the soul of his subject. De Volkskrant described it as a warmhearted blend of stories from Cash's life and from Griffioen's own, with Griffioen playing guitar throughout.
