Few electronic producers can claim a club anthem quite as inescapable as "La Rock 01". Released on the Poney EP in 2001 through DJ Hell's International DeeJay Gigolo Records, the track turned up on rock compilations, DJ mixes and festival sets alike, announcing Vitalic, the alias of Dijon born Pascal Arbez Nicolas, as a serious force in European electronic music. His debut album OK Cowboy followed in 2005, built entirely from synthesized instruments, and it cemented his reputation for emotionally charged, kinetic electronic production spanning techno, electro and synth pop. Since then he has kept a steady output going. Flashmob brought a disco influence in 2009, Rave Age pushed harder in 2012, and Voyager arrived in 2017. More recently, Dissidaence Episode 1 and Episode 2 landed in 2021 and 2022, and his soundtrack for the film Disco Boy earned him the Lumière Award for Best Music in 2024. He also runs his own label, Citizen Records, and has collaborated with artists including Rebeka Warrior under the project Kompromat.
