About
VNV Nation built their reputation on a sound that sits right at the crossroads of EBM, futurepop and synth pop, and they were partly responsible for coining the term "futurepop" itself. Ronan Harris, the London and Hamburg based creative force behind the project, writes, produces and sings everything, while live performances feature additional keyboardists and a percussionist. Their 1999 album Empires was the real turning point, topping the German DAC charts for seven weeks and showing off a layered, synthesizer heavy sound that left earlier industrial roughness mostly behind. The 2002 album Futureperfect pushed even further into trance and synth pop territory and was the first VNV Nation record made entirely with software synthesizers. Each album since has shifted the palette a little, from the harder edged Matter + Form to the more orchestral textures on Resonance. More recently the band released the single Wait in 2023 alongside the album Electric Sun, and a 2025 release called Construct shows they are nowhere near running out of ideas.
