Few bands made the Sunset Strip as volatile as W.A.S.P. did in the early 1980s. Formed in Los Angeles in 1982 around the provocative force of Blackie Lawless, the band built their reputation on shock rock theatrics, raw meat thrown into crowds, and songs so explicit that their debut single 'Animal (F**k Like a Beast)' had to be kept off their first album entirely to avoid a retail ban. The PMRC made them a prime target mid decade, which only generated more attention, while classics like 'I Wanna Be Somebody', 'Wild Child', and 'Blind in Texas' cemented their place in heavy metal history. Their first two albums earned RIAA gold certifications, and 'The Last Command' remains their highest charting record, peaking at number 47 on the Billboard chart. Over a career stretching across more than a dozen studio albums, W.A.S.P. have sold over 12 million records worldwide. Their most recent studio effort, Golgotha, arrived in 2015, and the band has been working on new material since.
