About
Waanzijn writes and sings entirely in Dutch, and their sound refuses to sit still in one place. The band rocks, funks and swings, but they're just as comfortable crafting a straight up pop melody or letting an instrumental chorus carry itself on flute alone. That flute, played by Kristel, winds around Thomas's warm guitar and Yuriy's inventive basslines to create hooks that stick around long after the song ends. Dennis holds it all together with groovy, varied drumming, while vocalist Richard delivers the Dutch lyrics with both musicality and conviction. Nederpop is the closest label you can put on them, but the band themselves describe their thing as a feeling rather than a genre: groovy, melodic and wilfully their own.
