About
Also known as: Suiyoubi no Campanella, Suiyōbi no Campanella, WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA
Wednesday Campanella built their reputation on a gloriously odd premise: every song is about a famous historical figure, mythical creature, or folklore icon, but the lyrics approach the subject sideways through wordplay and creative free association. Formed in Shibuya in 2012, the trio of KOM_I, producer Kenmochi Hidefumi, and director Dir.F blended EDM, J pop, and hip hop into something that fit neatly into no existing category. Tracks like 'Momotarō' and 'Shakushain' broke them into the Japanese mainstream, and they backed it up with inventive videos, brand tie ins with Nissin and PARCO, and a sold out Nippon Budokan show in 2017. Their major label run under Warner Music Japan brought international exposure, including appearances at SXSW, Tyler the Creator's Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, and shows across Europe and Asia. In 2021 original vocalist KOM_I left the group and was replaced by Utaha, who stepped into a project with a well established identity and a loyal following built on some of the quirkiest pop music Japan has produced in years.
