About
Also known as: Jack Tatum, John Alexander Tatum
Wild Nothing is essentially a one man studio operation. Jack Tatum writes, records and plays everything on the records himself, then hits the road with a full band to rework the songs live. He once described the live show as five different takes on the music he made, while the albums stay all him. It started in Blacksburg, Virginia in 2009, when his demos, including a cover of Kate Bush's Cloudbusting, got people talking and landed him a deal with Captured Tracks. The debut Gemini arrived in 2010 and made Pitchfork's year end list. Nocturne followed in 2012, debuted at number one on the Billboard New Artist and Alternative New Artist charts and earned a Best New Music nod from Pitchfork. Life of Pause (2016) and Indigo (2018) came next, and the fifth album, Hold, landed in 2023 with Hatchie guesting on Headlights On. Tatum has also picked up production and writing credits for Japanese Breakfast and Molly Burch.
