About

Will Lee is the kind of bassist whose fingerprints are on so much New York session work that you'd barely know where to start. He's probably best known as the anchor of the CBS Orchestra on the Late Show with David Letterman, a gig that began all the way back in 1982 when he joined Paul Shaffer's World's Most Dangerous Band on NBC's Late Night. Paul Shaffer himself singled Lee out on the final stretch of Late Show episodes as the one who had been there from the very first night. Beyond late night TV, Lee co founded the Beatles tribute act the Fab Faux in 1998 and put out a solo record called OH! that hit number one on the Jazz Beyond chart. He's a Grammy winner too, picking up the award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album for Some Skunk Funk alongside the Brecker Brothers and the WDR Big Band. His signature Sadowsky bass, built to his exact specs, became a full production model, which tells you plenty about his standing among working players.
