About
WonderYears takes Stevie Wonder's 1970s catalogue as its raw material, stripping those songs back to their melodic and harmonic core before rebuilding them as something new. The trio features saxophonist Jasper Blom, winner of the Boy Edgar Prize in 2019, alongside bassist Sean Fasciani and drummer Felix Schlarmann. Together they work through classics like Superstition, Higher Ground and I Wish, honouring the grooves and infectious melodies that made those tracks endure while steering the arrangements into jazzier, harmonically adventurous territory. Sometimes the original shines through clearly, other times the group pushes outward into more exploratory improvisation, using Wonder's rich harmonic language as a springboard rather than a constraint.
