Few bands squeezed more out of a three piece setup than Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The New York trio of Karen O, guitarist Nick Zinner and drummer Brian Chase built a reputation on ferocious live shows and a sound that shifted restlessly across garage rock, post punk and electronic territory without ever losing its edge. Their 2003 debut Fever to Tell went platinum worldwide and landed "Maps" on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest songs of all time, which is no small thing for a band that started out self releasing EPs on their own label called Shifty. From there they kept pushing: Show Your Bones in 2006, the synth heavy It's Blitz! in 2009 with its inescapable "Heads Will Roll", and then a near decade long gap before Cool It Down arrived in 2022. That comeback record, featuring the single "Spitting Off the Edge of the World" with Perfume Genius, earned them some of the strongest reviews of their career and proved the band still had plenty to say.
