About
Gael Ndombele, who records and performs as Yengi, makes music he calls Afrofusion: a blend of Afro, pop and hiphop loaded with emotion and a strong personal honesty. What makes his sound distinctive is the way he moves between three languages within a single song, French, Dutch and Lingala, all three languages he grew up speaking. Tracks like "Tika Nga" and "Hiya Hiya (Moi Même)" show him working as a storyteller as much as a musician, with lyrics that circle around personal growth, loss, love and struggle. Yengi was a semifinalist in the NPO FunX Talent Roots competition and was selected for Popronde, the largest touring music festival in the Netherlands. Live, he has a reputation for high energy sets that get crowds moving, built on a genuine connection with the people in front of him.
