About
Also known as: Yes R, Yesser Roshdy
Yes R went from a teenage talent show runner up in Amsterdam to one of the best selling rappers in the Netherlands. After he was brought into the orbit of Lange Frans and D Men, his first track Chickiesflasher turned into an underground hit, and in 2004 he won the audience award at De Grote Prijs van Nederland. He then left D Men and signed to his cousin Ali B's label, where his debut album Mijn pad followed. The big breakthrough was Leipe mocro flavour with Ali B and Brace, which hit number 2 in the Dutch singles chart. He has never stayed in one lane. Yes R turned up on kids' TV, talk shows and game shows, presented Nickelodeon's Hihi met Sisi, and acted in films like 'n Beetje Verliefd and Gangsterboys. Hits like Uit Elkaar, which even topped the charts in Suriname, and Vecht mee with Chantal Janzen kept him in the mainstream. He also picked up a TMF Award for Best Newcomer in 2006, though some in Dutch hip hop were less than impressed by his commercial turn.
