About
Young Fathers are three guys from Edinburgh, Alloysious Massaquoi, Kayus Bankole and Graham Hastings, who have built one of the more genuinely unpredictable careers in British music. Their sound pulls from hip hop, electronica, gospel and lo fi noise in ways that resist easy labelling, and that restless quality paid off early when their debut album Dead won the Mercury Prize in 2014. They have kept the momentum going ever since, with Cocoa Sugar and then Heavy Heavy both winning the Scottish Album of the Year Award, the latter also hitting number 7 on the UK Albums Chart and earning three Brit Award nominations. Six of their tracks appeared on the T2 Trainspotting soundtrack, including Only God Knows, which director Danny Boyle called the heartbeat of the film. Most recently they composed the full score for Boyle's horror sequel 28 Years Later, released in 2025.
