About
Also known as: Jeffery Phillip Wiedlandt, Zachary Phillip Wylde, Zakk Wylde's Pride & Glory, Zank Wylde
Few guitarists have a visual signature as instantly recognisable as Zakk Wylde's bulls eye finish, which shows up on nearly every guitar he touches. Born Jeffrey Wielandt in Bayonne, New Jersey, he landed the gig with Ozzy Osbourne in 1987 after hearing Ozzy was looking for a new guitarist on The Howard Stern Show, and went on to play on some of Ozzy's most defining records: No Rest for the Wicked, No More Tears, and Ozzmosis. He also founded Black Label Society in 1998, a band he has steered through 11 studio albums of heavy, groove driven metal. In 2022 he stepped in as touring guitarist for the reunited Pantera. Outside the full throttle metal lane, Wylde has shown real range. His two Book of Shadows solo albums are stripped back acoustic rock, a pretty sharp contrast to the wall of sound he brings with Black Label Society. Pride and Glory, his early 1990s southern rock project, hinted at that same versatility before the band called it a day in 1994. Black Label Society has kept the momentum going recently, putting out new music including Ozzy's Song and Name In Blood.
