After leaving One Direction in 2015, Zayn wasted no time carving out a sound completely his own. His debut solo single "Pillowtalk" and its accompanying album Mind of Mine landed him a historic double: the first British male artist to debut at number one in both the UK and the US simultaneously with a debut single and album. The alternative R&B direction was a sharp pivot from his boy band days, and it stuck. Since then he has kept building a serious solo catalogue. The Taylor Swift collab "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" and the Sia featured "Dusk Till Dawn" both hit internationally, while albums Icarus Falls, Nobody Is Listening, and Room Under the Stairs followed across 2018, 2021, and 2024. Most recently he teamed up with JISOO on "Eyes Closed" in 2025, showing he is still finding interesting collaborators. He also holds a unique Billboard Music Award distinction, winning New Artist of the Year twice, once with One Direction in 2013 and again as a solo act in 2017.
